Delaware Beach Morning

364 days

Today we returned from a great family beach weekend shared with several of our good friends Chris and Anya, Justin, Gilly & Sofia (10 1/2 mos), Gina and Marc, their kids Jaylin (8) and Luca (5), Natasha, Joe and Nikos (2). We were on the shore in Deleware near a unique and beautiful area - in the midst of horseshoe crab mating season. Pics and more on the fauna to follow. We celebrated (a bit early) Arlo's first birthday with a cake - a yellow cake with a hint of lemon, apricot glaze and a funny (made-up) frosting. Arlo enjoyed his cake and especially the blueberries that accompanied.

As we drove back from the beach, and while we unpacked and straigtened up, Sam and I have been reflecting on this day last year: the last day before we became parents! As each hour passes we can remember what we were doing, how the day unfolded, how the anticipation grew. My water broke first thing in the morning, just before we were to meet with the guy from the fence company about an estimate for a new fence. (Thanks to Sam and my Dad and Jesse and Mike, we now have that fence at 1/3 the cost!) At this hour, as it was getting dark, labor was getting stronger and we were getting ready to go to the birth center after a very mellow day of walks, yahtzee and movies. On the drive out to Annapolis (where the birth center is) we stopped and filled up the gas tank so we wouldn't have to on the drive home. At midnight we were doing laps around the parking lot as the contractions intensified. A bit later, I was into the jacuzzi tub where I was for most of the heavy labor...It was an amazing day, but nothing compared to the next...

We are so thankful to have our wonderful son. It's unbelievable that almost a whole year has past. Tomorrow, like every day, we will do our best to remind him of how much he is loved in this world!

Where's Arlo?

In the photo below, can you spot Arlo being held by his dad?
The other photo's are of our crabbing trip to the Eastern Shore and the pot of crabs moments before steaming. Also, a picture of a happy Arlo from the baseball game May 5th.
